Intro

Grabodo built Kalapurna from the ground up - a direct-to-consumer storefront for bilona A2 ghee and wood-pressed oils, where every product carries its sourcing story, its 40+ purity tests and the farming families behind it, all the way through to a checkout built for repeat pantry orders.

Kalapurna is a direct-to-consumer food brand built on provenance: hand-churned A2 ghee from indigenous cow breeds and cold, wood-pressed oils, sourced from native regions across India and made by more than 5,000 farmer families. The storefront carries that story from the field to the cart.

The Background

India's ghee and edible-oil shelves are crowded with products that all claim to be pure. Shoppers had no reliable way to tell a genuinely hand-churned bilona ghee or a cold, wood-pressed oil from an industrially refined one wearing traditional language on the label.

Kalapurna had the harder, slower, more honest supply chain - native breeds, calf-first milking, earthen-pot churning, pressing below 40C - but none of that was visible online. The brand needed a storefront that made the difference legible before the first purchase.

The Challenge

The challenge was to sell trust in a category where every competitor makes the same promise: prove purity without drowning the shopper in claims, and keep the traditional, rooted feel of the brand while the site still behaves like modern, fast e-commerce.

It also had to work for two very different visitors at once: the first-time buyer who needs the story, the lab results and the reassurance, and the returning customer who simply wants to reorder a 1L jar of ghee in under a minute.

The Solution

  1. 01 A provenance layer runs through every product page: native sourcing region, breed, pressing temperature and processing method, so the method is stated plainly rather than implied by packaging.
  2. 02 The 40+ purity tests are treated as content, not fine print - batch-level lab checks are surfaced on the listing where a shopper is actually deciding.
  3. 03 A process story built for scrolling - native breeds, calf-first milking, earthen-pot bilona churning, slow-cooked ghee - carries the craft without turning the page into an essay.
  4. 04 The catalogue is split the way customers shop, by ghee and by oils, with category pages that let a first-time visitor land on the right shelf from search or an ad.
  5. 05 Bestsellers, reviews and repeat-purchase cues sit high on the home page, so social proof does the convincing before the copy has to.
  6. 06 Support paths are built in rather than bolted on - store locator, order tracking, help and FAQ, and a direct line for anyone with a question mid-purchase.
  7. 07 Growth surfaces come with the storefront: referrals, bulk orders and a distributor route, so wholesale and word-of-mouth demand have somewhere to land.

The Results

  1. 01 A storefront where the harder supply chain is finally visible: purity is shown through sourcing, method and lab results instead of asserted in a tagline.
  2. 02 Ghee and wood-pressed oils sit in one clean catalogue, so a customer who arrives for one leaves with the other.
  3. 03 The work of 5,000+ farmer families and 40+ purity tests per batch now reaches customers as brand equity, not as backstory buried on an About page.
  4. 04 A pantry-friendly buying flow - clear sizes, straightforward reordering, order tracking and support - built around products people buy again every month.
  5. 05 Wholesale and community demand have a home: bulk orders, distributor enquiries and referrals all run through the same site.
  6. 06 Content and commerce sit together, with a blog on A2 ghee, wood-pressed versus refined oils and Ayurvedic cooking pulling search traffic straight into the catalogue.

The Achievement

  • Launched a full D2C storefront for A2 ghee and wood-pressed oils, from category pages through to checkout
  • Built a provenance layer that puts sourcing, processing method and batch testing on the product page
  • Turned 40+ purity tests per batch into a visible trust signal rather than a claim
  • Told the bilona and cold-press story visually - native breeds, hand-milking, earthen-pot churning, sub-40C pressing
  • Shipped the full support stack: store locator, order tracking, help centre, FAQ and contact
  • Opened growth channels alongside retail - referrals, bulk orders and distributor enquiries

"

Grabodo understood that we are not selling ghee, we are selling proof. The sourcing, the bilona process, the lab reports - all of it is finally visible where customers decide, and the site still feels as rooted as the products do. They built it like it was their own.
